Blood Test as a Gift: Buying a Health Check (UK)
Buying for someone else

A Blood Test
as a Gift

Short answer: yes, you can buy a private blood test for someone else in the UK, and with TrueVitals no voucher is needed: you pay for the test, a referral is created that never expires, and the test is booked later by phone. Before anything is booked, TrueVitals confirms the identity and date of birth of the person the report belongs to, and the results go to them, not to whoever paid. Ask before you gift it, choose the panel that fits their age and life, and point them to their GP instead if they have symptoms that worry them.

Facts on this page are taken from TrueVitals' own booking, FAQ, How it works, Ultimate and Signature pages, checked 1 November 2026. Written by James Smillie, TrueVitals, reviewed by the TrueVitals clinical review team.

How It Works

How buying a test for someone else works

There's no gift card, voucher code or redemption step. You buy the test itself, and the steps after that are the same ones every TrueVitals customer follows. This is what our booking page and FAQ say about the Advanced and Ultimate panels, which are taken at a partner clinic or at home:

1. Pay online

Choose the panel and clinic or home collection, then pay through Stripe. Klarna and Clearpay are available at checkout. The referral is created the moment you pay.

2. No deadline

The referral never expires. There is no booking window, so a test bought in December can be taken in January, or whenever the person is ready.

3. Book by phone

The confirmation email has the phone number. On the call, the team confirms identity and date of birth "so a report can only ever reach the person it belongs to", and books a slot there and then. Clinic or home can be switched on that call.

4. The draw

About ten minutes with a registered phlebotomist at one of 103 partner clinics (open Monday to Sunday, early morning to early evening) or at home or the office (evenings until 8pm). Fast from 10pm the night before; water is fine.

5. The report

Samples go to Nationwide Pathology, a UKAS-accredited lab. The clinician-reviewed report, written from the tested person's own lifestyle quiz, arrives within 4 working days of the lab receiving the sample.

Signature is booked differently. It is taken at a Randox Health clinic (there are no home visits for Signature): after purchase, Randox emails a secure booking link, usually within a working hour, to choose a clinic and time at a Randox Health clinic in the UK or Ireland. The report follows within 12 working days of the appointment.

Before you buy for someone else, ask us

Our pages explain the booking call and who the report reaches, but not every step of buying on someone else's behalf, such as whose details go where at checkout. Rather than guess, email support@truevitals.co.uk with who the test is for, and the team will tell you how their booking and results will work.

Which Panel

Which panel suits whom

Every panel includes the blood draw at a clinic. Prices and contents from our own panel pages, checked 1 November 2026:

A parent over 60

The Ultimate panel is the one most families choose. It covers the things that matter more with age: heart risk (cholesterol with ApoB and Lp(a)), HbA1c for blood sugar, kidney function with cystatin C (useful because creatinine-based eGFR is less reliable as muscle is lost), thyroid, a full blood count, iron, B12, folate and vitamin D, and PSA for men. A home visit (£29 extra) helps if travel is difficult. Ultimate also includes some tumour markers; these are screening support, not a cancer test, and NHS screening programmes and the GP come first. Our over-60 blood test guide goes through each marker.

A parent with a strong family history

If there is cancer, autoimmune or heart disease in the family and they can get to a Randox Health clinic, the Signature panel adds 90 specialist markers to Ultimate's 140, including homocysteine, ANA and anti-CCP, and further tumour and kidney markers, plus blood pressure, waist, hip, height, weight and resting pulse at the appointment. It is the bigger gift; for most people Ultimate is enough.

A partner who trains

Ultimate again: testosterone, SHBG and oestradiol, a full blood count, iron studies with ferritin, creatine kinase, vitamin D, thyroid, and kidney function with cystatin C, which matters for anyone muscular or taking creatine (see creatine and blood tests). They'll want to rest from hard training for a couple of days before the draw.

Someone starting the year with a plan

A test given at Christmas works well as a January baseline, with a retest about three months later to see what their changes did. Our New Year health check guide explains what to include.

Etiquette

Giving health as a present: ask first

A blood test is a thoughtful present for the right person and an unwelcome one for the wrong person. A few things to think about before you buy:

  • Ask before you gift. A test can't be taken without the person agreeing to it: they have to fast, give a blood sample and make the booking call. Some people hate needles or would rather not know. A quiet conversation beats a surprise on Christmas morning.
  • The results are theirs. Health results are private. TrueVitals checks identity before booking so the report reaches only the person tested. Don't expect to see it unless they choose to share it, and don't ask them to.
  • Be ready for what it might find. A broad panel can turn up something unexpected, from low iron to a result their GP needs to see. That is the point of testing, but it helps to give the gift with "and I'm here if you want to talk about it", not "now you'll know".
  • Frame it as care, not criticism. "I thought you might like a proper check-up" lands better than anything that sounds like a comment on someone's weight, drinking or age.
  • Let them choose the timing. The referral doesn't expire, so there's no pressure to book over the holidays.
  • Know the exit. If they would rather not, our booking page says cancellation and refund are accepted automatically on clinic and home-visit panels at any point before an appointment is booked.

A simple way to give it: a card that says what the test is, that it's theirs to book whenever they like, that the results go only to them, and how to book. No voucher needed.

The Honest Bit

When a GP is the better gift

Sometimes the most useful thing you can do is help someone get an appointment with their own doctor:

They have symptoms. Unexplained weight loss, bleeding, a new lump, a change in bowel habit, chest pain, breathlessness or exhaustion that won't lift: these need a GP, who can examine, test for free when clinically needed, and refer. A private report is not a diagnosis.
They are due a free NHS Health Check. In England, adults aged 40 to 74 without existing heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation or a previous stroke should be invited every five years. It checks cholesterol, blood pressure and possibly blood sugar, and estimates heart and stroke risk. If they've never had one, start there.
Their GP already monitors them. If they have a long-term condition or take medicines that need regular bloods, those tests belong with the team that manages them. A private panel can add context; it doesn't replace that care.
They're worried about one thing. If the concern is a single question, a GP appointment or a smaller test may answer it better than 140 markers.
Why TrueVitals

What they get, and when we're not the right choice

Every TrueVitals panel is a venous blood draw by a registered phlebotomist, not a finger-prick kit, and every report is reviewed by a clinician before release. The Ultimate report reads all 140 results together across body systems, includes a PhenoAge biological age, and is written from the tested person's own lifestyle quiz, so it is about them rather than a generic template. They can download it as a PDF to share with their GP. You can read more on how it works.

When we're not the right choice:

  • If you want a gift card the person can spend on anything: we don't sell them.
  • If they would prefer a finger-prick kit they can post from home: we don't offer one.
  • If they have symptoms, or their GP already monitors them: see the section above.
  • If they only need one or two markers checked: a smaller test is cheaper.

How we wrote this page

Written by James Smillie and reviewed by the TrueVitals clinical review team, 2 November 2026. Every fact about TrueVitals here was read from our own booking page, FAQ, How it works page and the Ultimate and Signature panel pages on 1 November 2026; where those pages don't explain a step of buying for someone else, we've left it out and asked you to contact us instead. NHS Health Check eligibility is as published by the NHS. TrueVitals is a UK blood testing company, so we have an interest in you buying a test; we've tried to say plainly when you shouldn't.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a blood test for someone else?
Yes. A TrueVitals test is paid for online and creates a referral that never expires. The test itself is booked later by phone, and before anything is booked the team confirms the identity and date of birth of the person the report belongs to. If you're buying for someone else, it's worth emailing support@truevitals.co.uk before you buy so you know exactly how their booking call and results will work.
Do you sell gift vouchers or gift cards?
No. TrueVitals doesn't sell vouchers or gift cards, and you don't need one. You buy the test itself; the referral is created at payment and never expires, so the person can book whenever suits them, next week or next spring.
Who sees the results if I pay?
Blood results are special-category health data. TrueVitals confirms identity and date of birth on the booking call so that a report can only reach the person it belongs to. Paying for the test doesn't entitle you to see the results; the person tested can choose to share their report, for example with their GP.
What if they don't want it?
On clinic and home-visit panels, TrueVitals' booking page says cancellation and refund are accepted automatically at any point before an appointment is booked. That's one reason to ask first rather than make it a surprise.
Which blood test is best for a parent over 60?
For most parents, Ultimate (140 biomarkers, 139 for women, £399 including the clinic draw) covers heart risk with ApoB and Lp(a), HbA1c, kidney function including cystatin C, thyroid, iron, B12, folate and vitamin D, and PSA for men. A home visit is £29 extra, which can help if getting to a clinic is hard. If they are 40 to 74 and live in England, check first whether they are due a free NHS Health Check.
Which blood test suits a partner who trains?
Ultimate is usually the right one: it includes testosterone, SHBG and oestradiol, a full blood count, iron studies with ferritin, creatine kinase, vitamin D, thyroid and kidney function with cystatin C, which matters because muscle and creatine can make the standard eGFR look falsely low.
Can I spread the cost?
Yes. Klarna and Clearpay are available at checkout. With Klarna, Ultimate can be split into 3 interest-free payments of £133, and Signature into 3 payments of £266.33, subject to eligibility.
When is a GP a better idea than a private blood test?
If the person has symptoms that worry them, such as unexplained weight loss, bleeding, a new lump, chest pain or breathlessness, the GP is the right first step, and NHS tests are free when clinically needed. The same goes for conditions their GP already monitors. A private panel is a broad check for someone who feels well or wants more information, not a substitute for medical care.
