For personal trainers

An income stream that
does not cost you an hour.

Nearly every way a trainer earns more costs another session. Blood test referrals do not. You are paid every time a client you introduced gets tested, for as long as they keep testing.

Every year

And those clients keep testing. In year two you earn from them again, on top of everyone new.

Based on each client testing twice a year, which is the typical pattern. The range reflects the panel they choose. Illustrative, not a guarantee.

The short version. Your clients already ask you why they are tired, why progress has stalled and whether they should be taking anything. Blood work answers all three. You refer them, they get money off, and you are paid on that test and every test they book afterwards.

It costs nothing to join, there is no minimum, and you are not giving medical advice at any point.

Why this is a growing market, not a favour

Private health testing in the UK has changed shape in the last three years, and it has moved towards exactly the people you already train.

NHS capacity has pushed people private. Waiting lists and appointment pressure mean a large number of people now pay for things they would once have expected free. Blood testing is one of the cheapest ways to do that, which makes it a first purchase rather than a last resort.

GLP-1 medication has created an enormous new group. Tens of thousands of people in the UK are now taking tirzepatide or semaglutide privately, most of them prescribed from an online questionnaire with no blood work at all. They need a baseline and they need monitoring, and almost nobody is providing it.

The longevity conversation has reached ordinary gyms. Markers that were specialist five years ago, ApoB, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, are now discussed on mainstream podcasts. Your clients have heard of them and cannot get them from a GP.

None of this needs you to create demand. It already exists in your client base and is currently being served by finger-prick kits sold through Instagram ads.

Why it fits a training business specifically

Most revenue a trainer can add sits badly alongside coaching. Supplements mean stock and a margin that is hard to defend. Merchandise means buying in. Online programmes mean writing them. Blood testing is unusual because it does three things at once.

It answers questions you are already being asked

  • Why am I always tired? Ferritin, thyroid function, B12 and vitamin D account for most of it, and none are visible from the outside.
  • Why has my progress stalled? Insulin resistance, thyroid and cortisol all blunt a programme that is otherwise correct.
  • Should I be taking anything? Half the people taking a supplement do not need it and the other half are missing the one that would help.
  • Why is my recovery so poor? Low ferritin is the single most common answer and it is routinely missed.

It makes your programming better

A client who tests gives you something real to work from. Instead of adjusting volume and hoping, you can see that ferritin is 14 and understand why they are flat. That shows up in results, and results show up in retention.

It gives you a reason to check in

Results land, you talk them through, you adjust the plan. That is a retention conversation you would not otherwise have had, and it happens again at every retest.

How the money actually works

The important difference from most referral schemes is that this one does not stop after the first sale.

Most people retest every six to twelve months once they have a baseline. That is why ten clients becomes a recurring annual figure rather than a one-off.

What to actually say

The worst thing you can do is pitch it. The best thing you can do is raise it at the moment it is obviously relevant, which happens more often than you think.

“I’m exhausted no matter how much I sleep.”

You say: That could be a dozen things and most of them show up on a blood test. Ferritin, thyroid, B12, vitamin D. Worth finding out rather than guessing.

“I’ve been doing everything right and nothing is changing.”

You say: Before we change the plan again, it is worth seeing what is going on underneath. Insulin, thyroid and inflammation all affect this and none of them are visible from the outside.

“Should I be taking anything?”

You say: Honestly, I would test first. Half the people who take supplements do not need them and the other half are missing the one that would help.

“My doctor said everything was fine.”

You say: A standard NHS panel is about fifteen markers. This is up to 230. Being told nothing is wrong is not the same as nothing being wrong.

Tell them you get paid if they book. It costs you nothing and it is the reason they trust you.

Common questions

Almost every way a trainer earns more costs another hour: more sessions, more classes, online coaching that still needs writing and reviewing. Referral revenue is one of the few exceptions. You introduce a client to something they already want, and you are paid on it without spending time delivering it. With TrueVitals you are paid on every test that client ever books, not just the first, so one conversation can pay for years.

No. You are introducing a client to a testing service, not ordering, taking or interpreting the test yourself. The client books and consents themselves, the draw is done by a trained phlebotomist, and the report is reviewed by a medical professional before it reaches them. You are not giving medical advice and you are not carrying clinical responsibility.

It is, provided you are open about it. The strongest position is simply to say that you get paid if they book. Most clients respect the honesty, and it is exactly why they trust your recommendation in the first place. What you should not do is promise a test will find something, interpret results you are not qualified to interpret, or suggest testing replaces seeing a doctor.

It depends on how many clients you refer and which panel they choose. Ten clients testing twice a year works out at roughly £800 to £1,600 annually, and it repeats because those clients keep testing. Exact per-panel rates are shown in your dashboard once you are approved.

Nothing. There is no joining fee, no minimum number of referrals, no monthly cost and no contract. If a month goes by with no referrals it has cost you nothing.

Commission is credited automatically as soon as a referred order completes. Once your balance passes £50 it is paid to your bank account through Stripe, without you having to request it. If you are not VAT registered you never need to invoice us.

Yes. TrueVitals has clinics across the UK plus at-home phlebotomy in over 200 areas, so a client anywhere in the country can be tested. Online coaching is arguably a better fit, because you have less to go on than a trainer who sees someone in person.
