Selph figures from selph.co.uk on 2 November 2026. Where Selph does not state a figure, we have not guessed it.

The real difference

A focused check, or the whole picture

Selph sells tests by topic: metabolic health, male hormones, an annual "7 Simple Checks". That works when you already know the question. It is less useful when you do not: unexplained tiredness, brain fog, or a GP who says everything is normal, because the answer often sits in a marker the focused test did not include.

The Ultimate tests 140 biomarkers in one venous draw, including the markers that usually explain those symptoms: Free T3 and thyroid antibodies, full iron studies, fasting insulin, cortisol, vitamin D and B12. The report reads them together, so a borderline ferritin, a high-normal TSH and a raised hs-CRP are interpreted as one pattern rather than three separate results.

Being fair

When Selph is the better choice

You want one answer, cheaply. Selph's Metabolic Health (£69) or Male Hormone (£65) test costs a fraction of a full panel and comes with a doctor's report.

You cannot get to a clinic and do not want a visit. A Selph kit comes to you by post. (TrueVitals can send a phlebotomist anywhere in the UK for £29, but that is still an appointment.)

You are tracking one thing you already know about. Retesting a single marker every few months is what focused tests are for.

How we compared

Methodology, and where this page is biased

  1. Who wrote it. James Smillie, founder of TrueVitals. TrueVitals is one of the options compared, so read this as a well-sourced page from an interested party: every competitor figure is from the provider's own website, dated, and their genuine advantages are stated.
  2. What was compared. Selph's tests as listed on selph.co.uk on 2 November 2026, against TrueVitals Ultimate and Advanced. Where Selph does not state a marker count or price, it is left out rather than estimated.
  3. Criteria. Clinical coverage for the question the page answers, sample method (venous scores above finger-prick for hormones and insulin), what the report does with the results, who reviews it, turnaround, and all-in price including any blood-draw fee, before promotional discounts.
  4. Corrections. If a figure here is out of date, email support@truevitals.co.uk and it will be corrected and the date above updated. Reviewed monthly.
FAQs

Common questions

If you want a full health screen rather than a focused check, TrueVitals Ultimate: 140 biomarkers from a venous draw with a clinician-reviewed written report, £399 including the clinic draw. If you want a cheap focused check with a doctor's note, Selph itself is good value; Medichecks and Forth sell similar single-topic tests.

Selph's tests are home finger-prick kits by default, with a Selph doctor writing a report on each. Its website mentions venous options at a clinic, by home nurse or by arranging your own, but does not list their prices on the test pages.

On selph.co.uk on 2 November 2026: 7 Simple Checks from £159, Metabolic Health £69 (9 measures listed), Male Hormone £65 (6 markers). TrueVitals Ultimate is £399 for 140 biomarkers including the clinic draw; Advanced is £319 for 74.

For a handful of markers it can be. For hormones, cortisol, insulin and larger panels a venous sample is the standard, and it avoids repeat kits when a capillary sample is too small. Finger-prick vs venous.

They do different jobs. Selph is a low-cost way to answer one question at home, with a doctor's report. TrueVitals is a full venous screen of 74 to 230 biomarkers read together. If you do not know what you are looking for, or your bloods are "normal" and you still feel unwell, the full screen is the better tool.
