Comparison · Nuffield Health assessments vs deeper blood testing

Nuffield Health assessment alternative: what £1,065 buys, and what it does not test

A Nuffield Health 360 assessment is a proper medical: two hours with a doctor and a physiologist, an ECG, body composition, blood pressure and a written report a fortnight later. It is a good product. But the blood testing inside it covers around 30 markers, roughly what a thorough GP would order, and the questions most people bring to a private health check, about hormones, insulin resistance, thyroid conversion, iron stores and genetic cardiovascular risk, are not among them. Here is exactly what each option includes, what each costs, and when the right answer is both.

Comparison based on Nuffield Health's published assessment contents and pricing, checked September 2026. We are one of the providers compared and have tried to be fair, including where Nuffield is the better choice.

What Nuffield offers

A physical examination with blood tests attached, not a blood test

Nuffield sells four assessments. Lifestyle (from about £399) is an hour with a physiologist and basic bloods. Female adds a smear and breast check. The 360 (about £1,065) adds a doctor, a resting ECG, a bowel cancer test over 45, a "physiological resilience" measure and two hours of contact time. The 360+ (about £1,129) adds a dynamic ECG or VO2 max and a third hour. All of them share the same blood panel: cholesterol, a full blood count, a biochemistry profile covering liver and kidney function, glucose, HbA1c if clinically indicated, and urinalysis. Results available on the day are discussed in the room; the personalised written report arrives within two weeks.

That is the honest shape of it. You are paying for a doctor's time, a physiologist's time, an ECG and a hospital setting, with a modest set of bloods to inform the conversation. If a face-to-face examination is what you want, Nuffield does it well. If what you want to know is what is going on in your blood, the panel is the limiting factor, and it is the same panel at every price point.

The gap

The questions a Nuffield blood panel cannot answer

Most people booking a private health check are not worried about their liver enzymes. They are tired, gaining weight, sleeping badly, losing their drive, or watching a parent's heart disease and wondering about their own. Those questions live in markers a 30-test panel does not reach.

"Why am I so tired?"

Ferritin, full iron studies, B12, folate, vitamin D, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. A Nuffield 360 tests none of these as standard. All are in Advanced and Ultimate. Always tired guide.

"Is my heart at risk?"

An ECG shows electrical problems today. ApoB and Lp(a) show the risk of a heart attack in 15 years, and Lp(a) is genetic and untested by the NHS. Ultimate tests both. Heart health guide.

"Am I heading for diabetes?"

HbA1c rises last. Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR show insulin resistance 10 to 15 years earlier, while it is still reversible. In Ultimate. Prediabetes guide.

"What are my hormones doing?"

Testosterone, cortisol, oestradiol, thyroid and the rest are the markers behind libido, mood, weight and sleep, and the ones a private check is most often bought to see. Ultimate carries the full set. Hormone guide.

"Is something inflamed?"

hs-CRP, immunoglobulins and coeliac screening catch low-grade inflammation and autoimmune activity years before symptoms crystallise. In Ultimate. Autoimmune guide.

"What is my baseline?"

A baseline is only useful if it is wide. 114 markers this year against 114 next year is a trend across every system. 30 markers is a trend across the ones least likely to change first. Why test annually.

Honest comparison

When Nuffield is the better choice, and when to do both

If you want to be examined by a doctor in person, have an ECG, discuss symptoms face to face, or need a smear, a breast check or a bowel cancer test in the same visit, Nuffield delivers something a blood panel cannot, and the 360 is a sound way to get it. Over 50 with cardiac symptoms, or with a specific worry you want a clinician to look at rather than read about, book the examination.

The combination many of our customers land on: a Nuffield Lifestyle assessment (from about £399) for the physical, the ECG and the doctor's time, plus a TrueVitals Ultimate (£349) for the blood depth. Together they cost less than a 360 and cover far more. Take the TrueVitals report to the Nuffield appointment and the doctor has 114 markers to work with instead of 30. FAQs

Nuffield Health assessment questions

How much does a Nuffield Health assessment cost?

As of September 2026, the Lifestyle assessment starts around £399, the 360 around £1,065 and the 360+ around £1,129, with prices varying slightly by location. Nuffield offers 0% finance over 6 or 12 months through Chrysalis Finance.

What blood tests are included in a Nuffield 360?

Cholesterol, a full blood count, a biochemistry profile including liver and kidney function, blood glucose, HbA1c if clinically indicated, and urinalysis, plus a bowel cancer test over 45. That is roughly 30 markers. Hormones, thyroid, iron studies, vitamins, ApoB, Lp(a), insulin and inflammatory markers are not included as standard.

Is TrueVitals a replacement for a Nuffield health assessment?

For the blood testing, it goes considerably further: 114 or 230 markers against about 30, with a written report in 48 hours. It does not include a physical examination, an ECG or face-to-face doctor time. If you want those, Nuffield or Bupa provide them, and many people combine a basic assessment with a TrueVitals panel for the blood depth.

Does TrueVitals include an ECG or physical examination?

No. TrueVitals is blood testing with a professional venous draw and a comprehensive written report. The Signature panel includes physical measurements taken at the Randox clinic, but not an ECG or a doctor's examination.

How long do Nuffield results take compared with TrueVitals?

Nuffield discusses same-day results in the appointment and sends the written report within two weeks. TrueVitals delivers the full written report and dashboard within 48 hours of the laboratory receiving your sample for Advanced and Ultimate; Signature takes around 12 working days.

Can I take my TrueVitals report to a Nuffield or NHS doctor?

Yes. The report is a downloadable PDF with every result, reference range and explanation, designed to be read by a clinician. Taking it to an appointment gives the doctor far more to work with than a standard panel.

Which is the most comprehensive private health check in the UK?

For blood testing, the TrueVitals Signature panel at 230 biomarkers is the deepest available in the UK. For a combined physical and blood assessment, the Nuffield 360+ and Bupa's top packages offer the most contact time but with around 30 to 40 blood markers. Full comparison of the most comprehensive UK tests.
