Why Aberdeen
Aberdeen is the most northerly big city in Britain, and that shapes its blood chemistry more than most places. From October to March the sun is too low for the skin to make vitamin D at all, and the city has some of the lowest measured levels in the country. A large share of the workforce works offshore on rotation, which flattens the cortisol rhythm, disrupts sleep and pushes insulin resistance in exactly the way an offshore medical does not test for. And the private-testing market north of Perth has been almost empty. The markers that matter here are vitamin D, ferritin, B12 and thyroid, read together, which is where the winter tiredness actually lives; morning cortisol, which tells a rotation worker what the pattern is costing; and ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, which predict heart disease and diabetes a decade before a standard check would notice.
