Why Bournemouth
Bournemouth and Poole have one of the oldest populations of any urban area in England, and age changes what a blood test is for. After 50 the questions are less about deficiencies and more about trajectories: is kidney function holding, is cardiovascular risk being managed on the right numbers, is a rising PSA benign or not, is the thyroid slowing. An NHS Health Check tests fewer than ten markers once every five years and stops at 74. The markers that matter here are ApoB and Lp(a), which predict events better than cholesterol at any age; cystatin C, which reads kidney function accurately in older and slimmer people where creatinine flatters; PSA with the free ratio for men; and the full thyroid, B12 and vitamin D set, which is where most "just getting older" tiredness actually lives.
Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR show the problem 10 to 15 years before HbA1c leaves the normal range, while it is still reversible. Both are in the Ultimate panel. HbA1c guide.
The cardiovascular markers that outperform cholesterol, and the ones that explain heart disease in people with "normal" results. ApoB is in every panel; Lp(a) in Ultimate and Signature. ApoB guide.Lp(a) guide.
Cystatin C for a kidney reading creatinine gets wrong in older people, PSA with the free ratio for men, and a full thyroid with B12 and vitamin D for the tiredness that gets blamed on age. All in Ultimate. Kidney guide.PSA guide.
