Why Oxford
Oxford asks better questions of a blood test than most cities. The university, the hospitals and the science parks along the A34 give it one of the most health-literate populations in the country, and the question those people bring is rarely "am I ill?" but "what is my trajectory?". That question is answered by markers an NHS check never includes: ApoB and Lp(a), which predict cardiovascular events better than cholesterol and one of which is genetic and fixed for life; fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, which show insulin resistance a decade before HbA1c moves; and hs-CRP, the low-grade inflammation that sits underneath most age-related disease.
