Private health check in Manchester and Cheshire: up to 230 biomarkers

A private health check should tell you something your GP appointment cannot. Most in this region do not: a Bupa or Nuffield assessment around Manchester costs £600 to £1,200 and tests roughly 30 to 40 blood markers, with the rest of the price going on the room, the treadmill and the doctor's half hour. TrueVitals tests 114 biomarkers for £349 or 230 for £799, drawn at clinics in Deansgate, Didsbury, Oldham and Bolton, at Randox Manchester for the Signature panel, or at your kitchen table anywhere from Alderley Edge to Knutsford. Every marker explained in writing, within 48 hours.

The short answer

If you want a physical examination, a fitness test and a consultation, book Nuffield or Bupa; they do that well and we do not do it at all. If you want to know what is actually happening in your blood, a TrueVitals panel tests three to seven times as many markers for a third to a half of the price, and includes the ones the hospital brands leave out: ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin, cystatin C, a full thyroid panel with antibodies and a complete hormone profile. Signature, at £799, also includes blood pressure and physical measurements at the Randox clinic.

Cheshire and south Manchester

Most people in Cheshire have it done at home

If you live in Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Prestbury, Hale, Bowdon, Bramhall, Knutsford or Macclesfield, the nearest clinic is a drive into Manchester or down to Crewe, and a fasted 8am appointment with the school run in between is nobody's idea of a morning. A registered phlebotomist comes to your house for £39, takes the same venous sample a clinic would, and is gone in ten minutes. It is the same test, the same laboratory and the same report; the only difference is that you are still in your dressing gown.

How it works

Four steps

1

Choose your panel

Advanced, Ultimate or Signature. If you are not sure, the two-minute quiz recommends one based on your symptoms and goals, and the answers also personalise your report.

2

Pick a clinic or an at-home visit

Deansgate, Didsbury, Oldham or Bolton at £19, Randox Manchester for Signature, or a phlebotomist to your door anywhere in Cheshire and Greater Manchester at £39.

3

Ten minutes, one venous draw

A registered phlebotomist takes the sample properly, from a vein, not a finger prick. Morning and fasted, because cortisol, insulin and testosterone all depend on it.

4

Your report, within 48 hours

Every marker explained in plain English and read against the others, with what to act on first and which results to take to your GP. Reviewed by a medical professional. See a sample report.

FAQs

Private health checks in Manchester and Cheshire

How much is a private health check in Manchester?

Hospital-brand assessments in the region run from roughly £600 to £1,200 and include a physical examination and consultation alongside 30 to 40 blood markers. A TrueVitals panel is £269, £349 or £799 and tests 74, 114 or 230 markers, with the draw at £19 in clinic or £39 at home and included on Signature.

Where can I get a blood test in Manchester without a GP referral?

At any of the TrueVitals partner clinics in Deansgate (M3), Didsbury (M20), Oldham (OL4) or Bolton (BL1), at Randox Health Manchester for the Signature panel, or at home anywhere in the region. No referral is needed for any of them.

Do you cover Cheshire?

Yes. At-home visits cover Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Prestbury, Hale, Bowdon, Altrincham, Bramhall, Knutsford and Macclesfield, and there are clinics in Crewe, Chester, Ellesmere Port and Wrexham for south and west Cheshire.

Is an at-home blood test as accurate as a clinic one?

Identical. The same registered phlebotomist takes the same venous sample into the same tubes, and it goes to the same UKAS-accredited laboratory. This is not a finger-prick kit. How at-home testing works.

What is included that Bupa or Nuffield leave out?

ApoB and Lp(a) for cardiovascular risk, fasting insulin and HOMA-IR for insulin resistance a decade before HbA1c moves, cystatin C for a kidney reading that does not misread in muscular or older people, a full thyroid panel with antibodies rather than TSH alone, and a complete hormone profile. What they include and we do not is the physical examination, ECG and fitness testing.

How quickly will I get my results?

Advanced and Ultimate reports are delivered within 48 hours of the laboratory receiving your sample, which is usually the same day as your draw. Signature takes around 12 working days because of the depth of testing involved.

Can I expense it or pay monthly?

Many people put an executive health check through their company; you will get a receipt suitable for that. Payl8r is available at checkout to spread the cost, subject to status and affordability checks. Pay monthly.
