Medichecks vs Lola Health (2026): Which Blood Test Is Better?
Comparison

Medichecks vs Lola Health
Honest Comparison 2026

Short answer: for one comprehensive panel, Lola Health gives more for less. Peak Insights 70 is 70 biomarkers for £235 including a phlebotomist visit; Medichecks Optimal Health is 59 biomarkers for £284 with a clinic draw. Choose Medichecks instead if you want a single targeted test, a finger-prick kit, or Lp(a) in your main panel.

Prices checked October 2026 on medichecks.com and lolahealth.com. Written by James Smillie, founder of TrueVitals, a competitor to both: see our bias statement below.

Honest Verdicts

Where each provider wins, and where it doesn't

Choose Medichecks if:

You want one specific test rather than a full panel. You'd rather do a finger-prick kit at home (available on many of its smaller tests). You want Lp(a), the inherited heart-risk marker, in your main panel. You like choosing between clinic, nurse or self-arranged collection. It is the larger, longer-established brand with far more Trustpilot reviews.

The trade-off:

The biggest standard panel is 59 markers and costs £284 with a clinic draw, or £308 with a nurse at home. Optimal Health doesn't list cortisol, PSA or fasting insulin.

Choose Lola Health if:

You want the broadest panel of the two for the lowest all-in price. You want a phlebotomist to come to your home for the same £35 as a clinic draw. You want cortisol, DHEA-S, thyroid antibodies and (for men) PSA in one panel. You like tracking results in an app.

The trade-off:

Peak Insights doesn't list Lp(a), fasting insulin or homocysteine. The doctor review is written commentary only: Lola's page says its doctors don't give consultations, medical advice or diagnoses. Its turnaround is stated as both 2 and 4 working days on the same page. It has far fewer Trustpilot reviews than Medichecks.

The Gap

What neither main panel lists

Both cover the core well: full blood count, liver, kidney, cholesterol and ApoB, HbA1c, thyroid with antibodies, iron and ferritin, vitamin D, active B12 and sex hormones. These markers don't appear in either Optimal Health or Peak Insights 70:

Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR: picks up insulin resistance before HbA1c rises. Why it matters

Cystatin C: a kidney marker that muscle mass and creatine supplements don't distort the way they do creatinine

Coeliac screen (tTG): coeliac disease is often undiagnosed for years (Coeliac UK)

Tumour markers and immunoglobulins: not screening tests on their own, but useful context alongside a clinician's review

A Third Option

If you want more depth than either

We make a third option, so read this with that in mind. TrueVitals Ultimate: 140 biomarkers (139 for women), £349 + £19 clinic draw or £39 home visit, venous sample, Nationwide Pathology (UKAS-accredited), clinician-reviewed report within 4 working days, 103 partner clinics. With a clinic draw that is £368 all-in, or £2.63 per biomarker.

It includes the markers in the table above that neither main panel lists: fasting insulin with HOMA-IR, Lp(a), cortisol, PSA (men), cystatin C, coeliac screening, tumour markers and immunoglobulins.

Where TrueVitals is not the better choice

It costs more up front than either Lola's Peak Insights (£235 all-in) or Medichecks' Ultimate Performance (£234 with a clinic draw). There is no finger-prick option: every test is a venous draw. You book your draw by phone after paying, rather than choosing a slot online. And TrueVitals is a newer, smaller brand than Medichecks. If you only need a few markers checked, Medichecks or Lola will be cheaper.

How we compared (and our bias)

We compared each provider's most comprehensive standard blood panel using only what its own website showed on 16 October 2026: price, collection cost, biomarker list, turnaround and review. All-in price is panel price plus the cheapest professional blood draw the provider sells. Prices change and both companies run promotions, so check before you buy. TrueVitals is a competitor to both companies; we've tried to state their strengths plainly and point out where we are not the right choice.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Medichecks or Lola Health better?
For a single comprehensive panel, Lola Health's Peak Insights 70 gives more biomarkers for less money: 70 markers for £235 with a phlebotomist visit or clinic draw, against Medichecks Optimal Health at 59 markers for £284 with a clinic draw. Medichecks is the better choice if you want one specific test, a finger-prick kit across a large catalogue, or Lp(a) in your main panel, which Optimal Health includes and Peak Insights does not list.
How much does Medichecks cost compared with Lola Health?
Medichecks Optimal Health is £249 and Ultimate Performance is £199, plus £35 for a clinic venous draw or £59 for a nurse home visit (self-arranged collection is free). Lola Health's Peak Insights 70 is £200, plus £35 for an at-home phlebotomist or clinic draw (self-arranged is free); Vital Check 56 is £155 and Core Health 45 is £125. Prices checked October 2026 on each provider's website.
Do Medichecks and Lola Health include a doctor's review?
Yes, both. Medichecks includes a doctor's comments by default and lets you opt for results only. Lola Health includes a written review by a GMC-registered doctor; its product page says the doctors do not offer consultations, medical advice or diagnoses.
Which is faster, Medichecks or Lola Health?
They are similar. Medichecks estimates 3 working days for Ultimate Performance and 4 working days for Optimal Health, counted from when the lab receives the sample. Lola Health's Peak Insights page says 2 working days on the product card and 4 working days in its FAQ, also from lab receipt.
Can I do a finger-prick test with Medichecks or Lola Health?
Only for smaller tests. Medichecks offers finger-prick on tests such as its Male Hormone, Advanced Thyroid Function and PSA tests, but its big panels (Optimal Health, Ultimate Performance) are venous only. Lola Health offers finger-prick or Tasso+ self-collection on a few small tests; its larger panels use a phlebotomist or clinic draw.
Is there a blood test that covers more than both?
Yes. TrueVitals Ultimate tests 140 biomarkers (139 for women) for £349 plus a £19 clinic draw (£368 all-in), with a clinician-reviewed report within 4 working days. It adds fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, tumour markers, coeliac screening, cystatin C and immunoglobulins, which neither Optimal Health nor Peak Insights lists. It is venous only, with no finger-prick option.
