UK blood test panels compared

We compared 12 private blood test panels from 9 UK providers on what you actually pay with a blood draw, how many biomarkers you get, and whether the markers that matter most are in. TrueVitals Ultimate (£399, 140 biomarkers) has the lowest price per biomarker of the venous panels compared and is the only panel under £400 with ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin, cortisol, thyroid antibodies and cystatin C, with the clinic draw included and a clinician-reviewed report. Cheaper panels exist; they test less.

The comparison

Prices include a clinic blood draw so every panel is compared like for like. "Key markers" counts six markers that most change how a result is read and that budget panels usually leave out: ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin, cortisol, thyroid antibodies and cystatin C.

Competitor prices and marker lists checked on each provider's own website on 5 November 2026, except Nuffield Health (checked 2 November 2026). Medichecks prices were time-limited offer prices on that date. Results times are as each provider states them. Clinic assessments (Bupa, Nuffield Health) include a consultation and physical checks, so they are not directly comparable on blood markers alone. If anything here is out of date, email support@truevitals.co.uk and we will correct it.

The six markers budget panels leave out

These are the markers that change how everything else is read. Each is a "Yes" only if the provider lists it in the panel itself, not as an extra.

  • ApoB counts the particles that actually cause plaque; it is a better guide to heart risk than LDL alone.
  • Lp(a) is an inherited heart risk factor that diet does not change. One in five people have raised levels, and most never find out.
  • Fasting insulin shows insulin resistance years before glucose or HbA1c move.
  • Cortisol and thyroid antibodies explain a large share of unexplained tiredness, weight change and low mood.
  • Cystatin C gives a kidney reading that is not skewed by muscle mass, which matters for anyone who trains.

Where others are the better choice

Choose someone else if

  • You need one or two tests only: Medichecks has the widest single-test catalogue and regular sales.
  • Speed is everything: One Day Tests and Randox Health report in 1 to 2 days.
  • You want a face-to-face doctor: Bupa and Nuffield Health include a consultation, ECG and physical checks, at around three times the price.
  • You want a cheap regular tracker: a finger-prick subscription such as Thriva tracks fewer markers more often.

Choose TrueVitals if

  • You want the widest coverage per pound, with the draw included
  • You want the markers above without paying for them one by one
  • You want a written report that connects results across systems, reviewed by a clinician
  • You want no subscription, and to test whenever suits you

What you get beyond the numbers

Most panels give you results and a short comment on each. A TrueVitals report reads your results together. An AI model works across all of your biomarkers and your lifestyle quiz to find the patterns that single-marker reading misses: iron, thyroid and inflammation that together explain fatigue, or insulin, triglycerides and liver enzymes that together point to early metabolic strain. Code then checks every value against the laboratory's own result and range, and a clinician reviews the report before it reaches you.

  • Clinic draw included at one of 103 partner clinics, or a home visit for £29.
  • Clinician-reviewed written report in plain English, with calculated indices such as PhenoAge (biological age) and TrueScore.
  • No subscription. Pay once, test when you like; your laboratory referral never expires.
  • Klarna or Clearpay at checkout if you want to spread the cost.

How we compared

We included the largest comprehensive venous panel from each major UK provider, plus the clinic assessments people most often weigh them against. Prices are the total for the test plus a clinic draw, taken from each provider's website on the date shown. Biomarker counts are as each provider states them; TrueVitals counts include the calculated indices its reports produce, the same way several providers count ratios. A key marker counts only when it is listed in the panel, not as an add-on. TrueVitals sells the panels named on this page, so we have shown where other providers are the better choice.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK blood test panel gives the most for the money?

On price per biomarker, TrueVitals Ultimate is the lowest of the venous panels we compared at about £2.85 per biomarker with the clinic draw included, and it is the only panel under £400 with all six of ApoB, Lp(a), fasting insulin, cortisol, thyroid antibodies and cystatin C. Medichecks and Lola are cheaper upfront but cover fewer markers.

Do cheaper blood tests include ApoB, Lp(a) and fasting insulin?

Often not. Of the panels compared here, only TrueVitals Ultimate and Signature include all three. Medichecks Optimal Health and One Day Tests Ultimate Longevity include ApoB and Lp(a) but not fasting insulin; Lola Peak Insights 70 includes ApoB only; Medichecks Ultimate Performance and Forth Ultimate Health Check include none of the three.

Is the blood draw included in the price?

It varies. TrueVitals includes the clinic draw in every panel price. Medichecks adds £35 for a clinic or £59 for a home nurse, Forth adds £45 or £59, Lola adds £35, and One Day Tests adds a £35 clinic fee. The prices in our table include a clinic draw so they can be compared fairly.

Do I need a subscription?

Not with TrueVitals: every panel is a one-off purchase, and you can test whenever you like because your laboratory referral never expires. Thriva Compass is an annual membership covering three tests.

How does TrueVitals use AI?

Where it genuinely helps. An AI model reads every result together with your lifestyle quiz to find patterns across systems that single-marker reading misses, such as iron, thyroid and inflammation markers that together explain fatigue. Code then checks every number against the laboratory's own values and ranges, and a clinician reviews the final report before you see it.

Which is the fastest?

One Day Tests and Randox Health report in about 1 to 2 days from lab receipt. TrueVitals Ultimate and Medichecks report in about 3 to 4 working days. Forth quotes up to 15 working days for its Ultimate Health Check.
