Medichecks Review 2026: Is It Worth It? Prices, Pros and Cons

Medichecks Review
Is It Worth It? (2026)

Short answer: yes, for targeted tests. Medichecks is long-established, well reviewed and offers a very wide choice of individual tests and finger-prick kits. It is less good value if you want one big all-round panel: its largest, Optimal Health, is 59 biomarkers for £284 with a clinic draw, and it leaves out fasting insulin, cortisol and PSA.

Facts checked on medichecks.com and Trustpilot, October 2026. Written by James Smillie, founder of TrueVitals, a competitor: see our bias statement below.

What It Does Well

What Medichecks does well

Choice. Medichecks sells everything from a single PSA test (£45) to 59-marker panels, so you can test exactly what you want without paying for a full panel.

Finger-prick kits. Many of its smaller tests (Male Hormone, Advanced Thyroid Function, Health and Lifestyle) can be done at home with a finger-prick, with no appointment.

Flexible blood draws. For venous tests you can choose one of around 400 partner clinics, a nurse home visit, or your own phlebotomist.

Doctor comments. Results come with comments written by GMC-registered doctors, and Medichecks says it phones customers about critical results. A follow-up GP appointment can be booked through Doctor Care Anywhere.

Track record. Established in 2001, with over 500,000 results delivered (Medichecks' figures) and an Excellent 4.5 Trustpilot rating from around 1,500 reviews.

Limitations

Where Medichecks falls short

Panel size. The biggest standard panel is 59 biomarkers. Lola Health's Peak Insights has 70 for less, and some providers go well beyond that.

Draw costs add up. Big panels are venous only, so the £249 Optimal Health becomes £284 with a clinic draw or £308 with a nurse at home.

Gaps in the main panel. Optimal Health's biomarker list doesn't include fasting insulin or HOMA-IR, cortisol, PSA, tumour markers, coeliac screening or cystatin C. You can add some as separate tests, at extra cost.

Comments, not a consultation. The doctor's comment explains your results, but a conversation with a GP is a separate, paid booking.

Verdict

Who should, and shouldn't, use Medichecks

Medichecks is a good choice if:

You want one specific test (thyroid, testosterone, PSA, vitamin D) at a fair price. You prefer a finger-prick kit to a blood draw. You want lots of choice over where and how your blood is taken. You value an established brand with a long review history.

Look elsewhere if:

You want the most biomarkers for your money in one test. You want insulin resistance (fasting insulin, HOMA-IR), cortisol or PSA in your main panel without bolting on extra tests. You want your results reviewed as a whole picture rather than as individual comments.

Alternatives

How Medichecks compares

Against Lola Health, Medichecks wins on choice and finger-prick kits, but Lola's Peak Insights gives 70 biomarkers for £235 including a home phlebotomist. Against Thriva and Randox, see our head-to-heads. For every option, see Medichecks alternatives.

We make one of the alternatives, so weigh this accordingly. TrueVitals Ultimate: 140 biomarkers (139 for women), £349 + £19 clinic draw or £39 home visit, venous sample, Nationwide Pathology (UKAS-accredited), clinician-reviewed report within 4 working days, 103 partner clinics. That is £368 all-in with a clinic draw, and it includes fasting insulin with HOMA-IR, cortisol, PSA (men), cystatin C, coeliac screening and tumour markers. It is not the better choice if you only need one or two markers, if you want a finger-prick kit (it has none), or if you'd rather book a draw slot online than by phone after paying.

How we reviewed (and our bias)

We reviewed Medichecks using only what its own website and its Trustpilot page showed on 16 October 2026; we did not buy a test for this review. Prices change, so check before you buy. TrueVitals competes with Medichecks; we've led with its strengths and said plainly where we are not the right choice.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Medichecks legit?
Yes. Medichecks has operated since 2001 and says it has delivered over 500,000 test results. Samples go to UKAS-accredited laboratory partners, and results come with comments written by GMC-registered doctors. It is rated Excellent (4.5) on Trustpilot from around 1,500 reviews (checked October 2026).
How much does Medichecks cost?
Prices checked October 2026: Optimal Health (59 biomarkers) £249, Ultimate Performance (56) £199, Advanced Well Man (44) and Advanced Well Woman (47) £159 each, Health and Lifestyle (19) £89. Venous panels add £35 for a partner-clinic draw or £59 for a nurse home visit; arranging your own phlebotomist is free. Smaller tests such as Male Hormone (£79) and Advanced Thyroid Function (£89) can be done with a finger-prick kit.
Does Medichecks include a doctor's review?
Yes. Medichecks says every test comes with a comment written by its GMC-registered doctors, and on some panels you can choose results only. It also says it will phone you about critical results, and you can book a follow-up GP appointment through Doctor Care Anywhere from your account (at extra cost).
How long do Medichecks results take?
Medichecks says most results arrive within two to four working days; it estimates 3 working days for Ultimate Performance and 4 for Optimal Health, counted from when the lab receives the sample. Some specialist tests take longer.
What does Medichecks not test?
Its biggest standard panel, Optimal Health, includes ApoB, Lp(a), full thyroid with antibodies and hormones, but its biomarker list doesn't include fasting insulin or HOMA-IR, cortisol, PSA, tumour markers, coeliac screening or cystatin C. Some of these can be bought as separate Medichecks tests.
What is the best alternative to Medichecks?
It depends on what you want. Lola Health's Peak Insights 70 gives more markers for less (£235 with a draw). If you want the broadest single panel, TrueVitals Ultimate tests 140 biomarkers (139 for women) for £349 plus a £19 clinic draw, with a clinician-reviewed report within 4 working days, but it has no finger-prick option. See our Medichecks alternatives guide.
